we hook up Just Dance 3 for the Xbox360/Kinect. Enjoy snacks as you boogie to classic dance songs as well as some of the most recent chart toppers. Even if you’ve never played come out and have fun.

A three hour workshop on basic game design. Attendees will learn about game design decisions, and will be able to develop the rules and materials for simple table-top games. Registration is required. Register by phone or in person.

The Library is offering another chance to compete against others and show off your skills. This tournament will be played on the PS3 console. Battle on the library’s projection screen with a stereo sound system! Participants under 18 will need to complete a permission form, signed by their parent/guardian: you can get your permission forms here. Snacks will be served and there are prizes for the winners! Registration is required.

Help us build a city out of lego bricks! Build the biggest, best house, skyscraper, mall or whatever your imagination can come up with! All Lego is provided. You just need to bring your imagination! Parents of children 6-9 are asked to stay in the room. Registration is required and begins Friday, January 6, 2012. Register by phone or in person.

Do you enjoy writing? If so sign up for the Library’s March
Break Short Story Contest. Contest details are:

1. Short story can be no longer than two pages
2. Short story must begin with the line,“I was using a
   computer at the library when suddenly the screen went
   blank and up popped a...”
3. Writers must have their own Pickering Public Library card
4. Fully completed entry form must accompany short story. You can get your form from your local branch or download it from here
5. Entries will be divided into the following age categories:
   JK - SK, grades 1 - 3, 4 - 6, 7 - 8, 9 - 12
6. Writers must email, kids@picnet.org, or drop off their
   story to a Pickering Public Library branch by March 18th.
7. All winning entries will be published on the Library’s
   website.

So you want to be a cartoonist? If so, there are some techniques you should know. Spend the day with experienced artist and teacher David McNiven learning about Manga, Superheroes, animation, comic strips and cartoon illustration. Pizza lunch will be served to feed creative minds. Registration
is required.
